Piezo stage is the common name for a nanopositioner. Piezo stages employ piezoelectric actuators to move a stage with very high precision. Unfortunately, piezoelectric actuators suffer from nonlinear behavior such as hysteresis and creep. To eliminate these nonlinearities, Mad City Labs, Inc. integrates a high resolution sensor into the stage to control position with sub-nanometer accuracy. The sensor is used to provide a feedback signal for control electronics. All Mad City Labs nanopositioners include integrated position sensors and closed loop feedback control for absolute position sensing.

The nanopositioners featured here are used for autofocusing in the z direction for microscopy applications. For biological applications, the piezo stages featured below are used for z image reconstructions (z stacks).

Our full range of nanopositioning products is available on the Mad City Labs' website.

Features
  • Super long range (500 μm) Z-axis motion
  • Multiwell plate sized aperture (4.3" x 6.3")
  • Closed loop control
  • Low profile, easy to retrofit

  • Typical Applications
  • High speed confocal microscopy
  • High throughput fluorescence microscopy

  • Long Range Piezo Stage

    Product Description
The Nano-Z500 is a long range, Z-axis nanopositioner specifically designed to hold multiwell plates used in biomedical research. High-throughput single cell fluorescence microscopy and high speed, high resolution confocal imaging can be accomplished while simultaneously adjusting the Z-axis position to remove the effects of multiwell plate irregularities. The Nano-Z500 has true flexure guided motion and contains internal position sensing. Utilizing proprietary PicoQ™ technology, the position sensors provide absolute, repeatable position measurement for closed loop control with a resolution of better than 1 nm over the full 500 micron travel range. In addition to high resolution spatial imaging, the Nano-Z500’s 15 ms step response allows entire Z-section acquisitions with minimal photo bleaching. Additional information is available at the Mad City Labs product page.

    Product Description
The Nano-Z Series are single axis (Z-axis) piezo stage systems with a low profile design, allowing it to be easily retrofit into existing instrumentation where space is restricted. With a large center aperture, the Nano-Z Series is ideal for confocal imaging and microscopy applications which require long range travel and fast, repeatable positioning. Combined with the high output power Nano-Drive™85, the Nano-Z Series is capable of a 3-4 ms step response - ideal for high speed, high precision applications. Internal position sensors utilizing proprietary PicoQ™ technology provide absolute, repeatable position measurement with picometer accuracy under closed loop control. Additional information is available at the Mad City Labs product page.
